"A New Moon teaches gradualness and deliberation and how one gives birth to oneself slowly." - Jallaludin Rumi
Posted May 12, 2010
We are winding up a crazy three-week Mercury in retrograde period which began April 17th and concluded May 11th (give or take a few days for the dust to settle). All the while Mercury has been in Taurus (a fixed sign noted for patience as well as stubborn-ness) squaring off with Mars in Leo (another fixed sign who, for several months now, has been nudging us to practice expressing from the heart) while Uranus finishes up her seven year transit in oceanic Pisces currently in the very last degree of the entire zodiac at 29 degrees.
Times are intense. Just baring witness to the absolutely spectacular displays of Mother Earth in all Her coughing, shaking, spewing, and erupting (either naturally or in response to human error) it all seems to mirror the processes many of us are going through. In order for the old to give way to the new these uncomfortable but necessary rites of passage -- dying to old ways in order to be reborn -- abound.
We may be too “in it” to realize that this too shall pass because the upheaval and disruptions in most people’s lives are so intense. Even good change can be incredibly stressful. However, this too SHALL pass, and the comfort these words offer can be the much needed calm in the midst of the storm.
The astrological events are not letting up anytime soon but we can ride the waves by remembering to invite in the unconditional support and protection of Divine Wisdom, Grace, Spirit, however you call in the unseen world to yourself.
The actual lunation of this New Moon occurs in the sign of Taurus at 23.09 degrees Thursday evening, May 13, 2010, at 6:04 pm PDT. Taurus is a fixed sign, meaning it concentrates energy by stabilizing that which was created during the Aries cycle. It is also the sign that offers the calm, the yin to the yang of Aries. In the upcoming cycle, we have the opportunity to practice chilling out. It can help to place our focus on the in breath, the inhalation, the receiving end of the cycle.
Taurus values peace and quiet most of all, and this is the time of year where we practice consciously creating peace, stabilizing ourselves, connecting to our bodies and paying attention to its messages. Much of this can only happen through taking time to connect with the Inner Self in silence, then being receptive and open to what wants to come our way.
Many blessings to everyone at this transformative New Moon cycle. Remember, Taurus is an ancient sign symbolized by the fecundity of the Bull and reigned supreme at a time when the Goddess / Feminine was in all her glorious power. Be in your power. Cherish Mother Earth. Cultivate deep respect for the feminine within, and send loving thoughts and prayers to your fellow travelers.

Today's New Moon occurs at 5:29 am PDT at 25 degrees of Aries squaring the Solar Eclipse which formed at 25 degrees of Capricorn on January 15, 2010.
What was going on for you at that time?
Today marks an important turning point and beckons us to write intentions for courageous new beginnings.
Be bold. Be brave. Be brilliant. Be blessed.

I woke up and began writing this at 3:45 am PST this Saturday morning. It is now 5:00 am and I just learned there has been an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile followed by possible tsunamis and (can it be?) " lesser " quakes of 6.9 magnitude! Adding to this a 6.9 quake in Japan as of yesterday, Haiti continues to reel in the wake of their countries’ devastation, the Northeast is being pummeled by a winter storm, and we are having strong rain and gusts here on the west . . . Om Namah Shivaya. Extend your compassionate (Pisces) service (Virgo) however you can, through prayers, money, relief efforts, extending love to yourself and others deeper than ever before.
This weekend throughout Tuesday, the energies of an extraordinary full moon culminate in the signs of Pisces and Virgo. Peaking Sunday morning, She is perigee (as close to the earth as she can get) which exponentially increases the manner in which we experience Her gravitational pull on our emotions and psyches. As above, so below. The pull on our oceans and tectonic plates are equally affected.
This lunation occurs under the reign of the Aquarius New Moon which aligned very closely with Neptune (Pisces’ ruler) a couple of weeks ago. At that time (Feb 13th to be exact) we were invited to tune in to strong Aquarian energies, “The Inner Maverick” . . . that part of us that is unique, that marches to the beat of its own drum. When an outer planet, like Neptune, forms such a tight conjunction our psyches receive another powerful directive. In a sea of humanity, where we are billions on this planet, each one of us bare an individual stamp. There is no one like us nor will there ever be. At the same time we are One in Spirit and the Absolute Truth that we are here to express Love and Light is more prevalent and available to us to realize (and emulate) than ever before.
Full moons activate the unconscious. They are times where we experience a compelling sense of urgency to synthesize and integrate two opposing parts symbolized by the signs involved.
Earth (Virgo) and water (Pisces). Matter and emotion. The physical and the psychic.
Currently, the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Uranus are all moving through this transpersonal sign. The last sign of the zodiac, Pisces has walked a mile in everyone’s shoes. She is attuned to cosmic energies and dream states, and seeks the experience of “oneness”. She is learning to surrender, to let go and Let God. But Pisces can compulsively seek that oneness in addictive ways and can lose itself in putting the needs of others before their own. Pisces is deeply intuitive, flowing, and surrendering but she can also be too self-sacrificing, escapist, confused, and overly sensitive.
Virgo brings the balance. (In fact, for the record, every sign of the zodiac seeks balance through its opposing sign.) Virgo is the body/mind connection to the “spirit” of Pisces. The Pisces part of us thrives with a strong spiritual base. Astrologer, Michael Lutin, is quoted as saying, “If Pisces is the alcoholic (or whatever the addiction may be), Virgo is the 12-step meeting.” Virgo values the practical details of day-to-day life. It is an analytical, mental sign, modest and unassuming. If Pisces can “dream it up” Virgo can dream it down. The ultimate Virgo / Pisces synthesis is: “God (Pisces) is in the details (Virgo). In this way they serve one another beautifully.
This is an opportune time to release, to let go of that which is no longer serving us. We are preparing for the spring equinox, when Aries bursts forth with fresh will and vitality. But first, we must enter the cave of our hearts, and excavate with gentleness and compassion, what might be holding us back.
I’m currently taking an online course entitled, “Living in the Truth of the Present Moment”. To me this course is a perfect synthesis of Virgo (practicality), Pisces (connecting with Self) and Aquarius (Truth). I highly recommend it. Visit D. R. Butler on facebook or at http://truthofthepresentmoment.blogspot.com.
Folks, in light of learning about this massive quake in the midst of writing this, let us open our hearts to whatever capacity we can in compassionate service for all humanity. My heart goes out to all those who are suffering in Chile and the surrounding regions. I am going to cry, pray, and meditate now.
With blessings,
Pam

New Moons are power times. They occur when the Sun and the Moon precisely align in the same degree and minute of a zodiac sign. New Moons mark the beginning of a fresh cycle and make a unique imprint on our psyches every month based on the sign and the house where this lunation occurs.
If we can make a conscious effort to harness the unique astrological energies each month, we experience psycho-spiritual growth, healing, and renewed creative inspiration. It becomes a way to navigate through life, when we understand how beneficial it can be to set specific intentions at the beginning of each new cycle. It becomes a beautiful way to take care for ourselves on the level of body, mind and spirit.
Tonite, a New Moon forms for everyone at 6:51 pm PST (I apologize for sending this late) at 25.18 degrees of Aquarius (the sign most associated with breakthroughs in consciousness). This lunation is particularly auspicious as it aligns with Neptune (the planet of spirituality, compassion, and illusion) and Chiron (an asteroid and the “wounded healer” archetype). In addition, a beautiful conjunction between Venus and Jupiter in the spiritual sign of Pisces, combine to set the stage for quantum leaps in personal healing and major breakthroughs in consciousness.
Aquarius is catalytic and electric. This is maverick energy. Its totem, the water bearer, is an androgynous figure that pours the waters of life from a large vessel onto humanity. We literally witnessed this at Half Moon Bay today when huge 40 foot waves formed sending surfers reeling to stay steady on their boards, while the residual waters crashed onto shore, knocking over and injuring some spectators, concession booths, and the like. Many blessings to the injured, to be sure, but how much of it was a blessing in disguise? We never know how or when we might be catalyzed into a new awareness. . .
Aquarian energy is transpersonal, the humanitarian naturally wired into group energy and group dynamics. It is the objective, detached, brilliant, and eccentric part of ourselves. Through honoring our ‘wyrd’ness we channel the highest. (Wyrd, is of Celtic origins and literally means “connected to God”.)
Aquarius asks: Where can you afford to shake things up a bit (or a lot)? What does it mean to you to honor your uniqueness . . . to really value yourself as an individual? What are your unique gifts and talents that are seeking further expression? What groups or communities are calling for your participation or calling you to take your participation to a new level? Maybe you’ve gotten the lessons and are ready to move on? Does belonging to this group feel congruent with who you are now? Who is your tribe that supports you at this stage in life? What steps can you begin to take to manifest the dreams that are stirring within?
Set your ten intentions for this New Moon by writing them down within the next eight hours (ideally) or in the next couple of days. Many blessings for a productive, insightful, and auspicious cycle. Happy Chinese New Year (year of the Tiger) and Happy Valentine’s Day (honoring love and light).

Tonite, the Full Moon forms at 10:18 pm PST in the sign of Leo at 10.15 degrees. This powerful lunation is perigee (as close to the earth as it can get) therefore the moon will be particularly bright as well as influential on the ocean tides and fluids in our bodies not to mention our psyches. Conjunct Mars in Leo, this full moon is even more energized as it emphasizes the “take action” qualities of Mars with the Leonine attributes of heartful, authentic self-expression, and the courage it takes to individuate and “roar” with conviction. Leo reminds us that in the midst of all these billions of people on the planet, it is our choice to make a difference by bringing forward our special gifts, whatever they are, especially at this time. Only YOU can do what YOU do. Trust that. Believe in that. Full Moons tend to amplify the shadow aspects of self, so if a sense of powerlessness or lack of self-worth and resignation is getting the best of you, take heed and remember; this is NOT who you are. If ever the quote by Marianne Williamson applied it would be at the time of this Full Moon:
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world . . .We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us."
Leo is ruled by the Sun. Let your light proudly. Let your heart guide your steps, and love with passion.

Tonite, at 11:11 pm PST, a Solar Eclipse, (the first New Moon of 2010) forms at 25 degrees of Capricorn. This is a very significant annular eclipse as it will last a total of 11 minutes 8 seconds, the longest of its kind until 3032. It is also perigee meaning the moon is as close to the earth’s orbit as it can get. When the sun, moon and earth align like this, the electro-magnetic frequencies constantly bombarding our planet are momentarily disrupted. These disruptions affect not only tides and earth movement but influence and reconfigure us on a cellular level and at the very core of our psyches.
Eclipses in a particular sign of the zodiac occur in 19 year cycles. The last time we had an eclipse close to this degree was mid-January 1991. Think of what was happening for you around that time for something may very well be wanting to go to the next level now.
I am calling this eclipse the parent to last summers’ equally powerful solar eclipse which formed in the opposite sign of Cancer at 29 degrees on July 22nd. By the way, this six-and-a-half minute eclipse was the longest of ITS kind until 2132 !
If last summers’ focus was on Cancer, the archetypal mother, this eclipse seeks to balance out with the focus on Capricorn, the archetypal father. Capricorn rules structures, discipline, hard work, step-by-step planning, authority, responsibility, the Divine Masculine. Cancer rules feelings, intuition, nurturing, nourishment and the Divine Feminine. We are being called to bring these two aspects of ourselves into a sacred dialogue (much was powerfully seeded in us last summer). These aspects of ourselves are seeking balance and a coherent expression through each of us via the continued development and sharing of our gifts and talents. Cancer intuitively feels what needs to happen next and Capricorn makes it so with discipline, patience, and fortitude.
A Solar Eclipse is a super powerful New Moon that often marks major endings and beginnings in our lives. Since a Solar eclipse can zap our energy be sure to get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids, eat well, and exercise regularly.
It is worth noting that this Eclipse aligns exactly with Venus, the Goddesss of Love and Beauty. Therefore, any intentions you have to beautify yourself, your environment, to embark on anything artistic, to improve your relationships or manifest an intimate partner, have Venus’ blessings for the long term. Remember, productive Capricorn is all about long term planning, goal setting, and the step-by-step actions that it takes – a little every day – to make something we really want to come to fruition.
So . . . set your intentions tonite or sometime tomorrow keeping in mind that although Mercury moves forward tomorrow morning (1/15), Mars is still retrograde (until Mar 10th) and Saturn (Capricorn’s ruling planet) just turned retrograde (Jan 13th – May 30th). In other words you may want to precede each intention with “Grant me the patience to . . . . “ because at times it will feel like we aren’t making any forward movement at all.
The next Astrological Forecast Gathering will be Saturday, February 6th beginning at 10:30 am so let me know if you can come and I’ll reserve a spot for you. I’ll be sending an “official” invite very soon.
Until then, many blessings to everyone and a Happy Productive New Moon cycle!
Pam
