New Moon Gatherings

For hundreds of thousands of years, many cultures on our planet followed the "major lights" tracking and honoring the relationship between the Sun and the Moon (the two astral bodies most visible from earth). They understood that to align ones actions with the cycles of nature was to align with auspiciousness and blessings.

Each month, at the time of the New Moon, I host a gathering in my San Leandro studio to explore these auspicious lunar influences for the coming four weeks.

Participants receive a copy of their birth chart revealing what area of life the New Moon transits that month. Although I give a thorough talk on the current lunar / planetary influences, we spend much of the time exploring our personal birthcharts in the spirit of support and formulating positive affirmations and goals. For this reason I prefer intimate gatherings (fewer than 10 women). This encourages a safe, nurturing environment for insightful discussions. Also, it leaves plenty of time for questions.

What is a New Moon?

Each month, at the time of the New Moon, the Sun and Moon join together in a different sign of the zodiac at the exact same degree. It takes a full year for the New Moon to cycle through all 12 signs and houses.

The New Moon usually appears in a different house in your birthchart every month. The astrological houses represent the territories of our life. Wherever the New Moon appears in your chart, that is the area of life where the "action" is taking place right now.

The New Moon is a time to connect with and write down your personal intentions for new beginnings of any kind such as a creative project, new health regimen, or deepening your commitment to a spiritual practice. According to Jan Spiller, author of New Moon Astrology, writing up to ten intentions at the time of the New Moon can increase your clarity and confidence in creating your life according to your true nature.

For example, if the New Moon was transiting your 7th house of relationships, you would want to set your intentions around the relationships in your life. Your intentions might relate to improving communications with your partner or setting important boundaries with a close friend. However, don't take my word for it! The beauty of these lunations is that you get to test out the information you receive through your life experience. Inevitably, however, people find they are intimately attuned to the cycles as they place their awareness and focus on the territory of life being highlighted.

With awareness and understanding of how these lunation cycles impact your personal birthchart you can align with and co-create your life more consciously every day, week and month. When we explore and honor the New Moon in a gathering of two or more people, we tune into a larger pool of positive creative energy. This monthly practice helps us recognize the natural cycles of manifestation as they are reflected in our astrological charts.
